Three kinds of listing

Every business on the list carries one of these marks. The landing page shows JL confirmed only; the full list shows everything, so you can help confirm the rest.

JL confirmedWe know the business and the owner is engaged with the list. This is the seal, and the only mark JaquansList gives itself.
Community confirmedBlack-owned and open, confirmed by neighbors or a trusted source. The owner has not yet claimed or listed it.
Community identifiedSuggested by a community member or found in our research. Not yet confirmed. Say whether it is open and Black-owned, and it moves up.
Know one that isn't here? Anyone can add a Black-owned business, owner or not. It goes on the full list as Community identified, and the owner can claim it whenever they like.

Why JaquansList

Where our dollars are safe.

Generations ago, Black travelers carried a guide that told them where they could safely eat, sleep, and be welcomed. That kind of safety still matters. But the question has changed. Today it is less about where we can safely go and more about where our money is safe: where a dollar spent stays in the community, funds a family, and comes back around.

JaquansList is a directory for that kind of safety. Anyone can suggest a business and neighbors help confirm it. The ones we know carry the JL seal, and those are what you see first. Listing is free while we get started. The more we patronize these businesses, the stronger they get, and the stronger we all get.
